At a press conference on May 12, the Hassan Diab Support Committee, accompanied by Amnesty International Canada, the International Civil Liberties Monitoring Group (ICLMG), and Dr. Diab’s attorney, Donald Bayne, highlighted the egregiously flawed French Court of Appeal decision of January 27, 2021, referring Dr. Diab to trial. In its decision, the French Court of Appeal misrepresented evidence, misstated facts, relied on discredited evidence, made up non-existent evidence, and engaged in contradictory reasoning and troubling analysis based on unfounded speculation. See memos prepared by Donald Bayne:

On May 19, France’s highest court, the Court of Cassation, will decide whether to quash the January 27 Court of Appeal ruling — thus have a new Court of Appeal look into Hassan’s case — OR refer Hassan’s case to trial.
Dr. Diab’s fate remains far from certain in this relentless cycle of injustice. It is vital that we exert every ounce of pressure on the Canadian government and demand that it intervene to rescue Dr. Diab from groundless persecution. He and his family have suffered long enough!
